Fishcaughtonline was borne out of the growing realization that todays discerning customer expects and deserves more than just a quality seafood product. The customer also expects that with that product must come accountability on how and from where that product came to the table. Consequently, with the above in mind and coupled with the fact that todays markets have changed in line with consumers expectations, we as fishermen must also change in order to meet those demands. Fishermen traditionally have traded their fish on the open market and as such are pricetakers rather than pricemakers. This for generations has worked, however with new methods comes new opportunities and as such fishcaughtonline was created. Fishcaughtonline uses a vessel working from Scarborough in North East England. They fish longlining the traditional months from December through to early April on a daily basis weather permitting. The vessel is less than 10 metres in overall length and comprises of a crew of 2 or 3 men. The boat takes 8 to 12 lines daily and shoots and then hauls the lines almost as soon as the last hook is overboard. |
